Predictions for second half freight volume range from a continued "loose" market of available capacity to a return to a more "normal" retail led tightening of capacity availability. Issues around capacity availability continue, depressed rates potentially driving capacity out of the market, labor issues that could disrupt capacity availability, all elements that point to potential significant volatility in the market. This leads to Retailers thinking strategically about how, when, and on what cadence do they source their contract capacity and are there better practices for their spot, and their low volume freight currently being contracted but vulnerable to routing guide failure. Strategic consideration starts the process but having the ability to execute on that strategy through new best practices is key to optimizing outcomes for cost and service.
